Apple Home Automation: Air Freshener for the Modern Bathroom

There are several humidifiers on the market that support Apple Home and can spread a pleasant scent by adding just a few drops of essential oils. These devices are not only suitable for the living room but also work exceptionally well in the bathroom to effectively neutralize unwanted odors.

You can use any HomeKit app for this automation. In this guide, we are using Controller for HomeKit.

Open Controller for HomeKit, tap on “Automations” and create a new automation via the plus icon in the top-right corner.

Since the air freshener should be turned on when the switch is pressed, tap on “Remote,” select the switch, and then choose “Single Press”.

At this point, you can also use other triggers, such as a motion sensor.

You can assign a name to the automation in the overview. We chose “Turn on Air Freshener”.

Via “THEN execute these scenes” you can specify a scene to be executed.

If you already have a scene that turns on the humidifier, you can select it here. Otherwise, tap on the plus icon in the top-right corner and add a new scene. Assign a suitable name here as well.

As an action, add the humidifier, specifically activating it. If you have already integrated your bathroom fan into HomeKit, you can also turn it on in the scene.

After saving the scene, select it from the list and then close the scene list.

To automatically turn off the diffuser, you can set the desired duration under “Turn off.” We chose 5 minutes. Finally, you just need to activate and save the automation.

Once you press the switch, the air freshener will be turned on initially and automatically turned off after five minutes.
